"Anyone can cook a hamburger, leave the vegetables to the professionals"
Dirt Candy, is a one of a kind, vegetarian restaurant located in the Lower East Side. The chef, Amanda Cohen, prides herself in presenting vegetable dishes in a unique and innovative way. When my Mom had expressed interest in wanting to eat dinner there, I called to see about a reservation. Little did I know that the closest one they had was 8 weeks away! However, when my Mom came into the city we ended up walking into the restaurant with no reservation and convinced them to let us have a meal before the rush.
The meal was one of the best vegetarian meals I have had in a while. Everything was so different and delicious, from the Jalapeño poppers with homemade maple butter we started with, to the sweet pea and mint ice cream sandwich we had for dessert. The restaurant has now moved to a larger space in the Lower East Side, on 86 Allen Street. I have not eaten at the new location, but I believe you can now drop in without a reservation and sit at the bar for a meal.
